The role
The Operational Psychometrician is a full-time, hybrid role based in Houston, TX, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for the ongoing psychometric support of operational assessments, including conducting item and test analyses, monitoring test performance, and ensuring the reliability and validity of assessment programs. Day-to-day tasks include designing and executing psychometric studies, supporting test development workflows, documenting methodologies, and preparing technical reports for internal and external stakeholders. The Operational Psychometrician will collaborate with content developers, data analysts, and project managers to implement scoring models, maintain test forms, and support quality assurance processes. The role also involves advising on best practices in measurement, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and responding to client or regulatory inquiries regarding test performance and fairness.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Classical Test Theory and Educational Measurement, with the ability to apply these frameworks to operational assessment programs.
- Experience in Test Development, including item writing support, item review, form construction, and test blueprint alignment.
- Proficiency in Item Response Theory, including model selection, calibration, and interpretation of item and test characteristic curves.
- Experience conducting Job Analysis to inform competency models, test specifications, and validation studies.
- Graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in Psychometrics, Educational Measurement, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Statistics, or a related field.
- Ability to work with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, or similar) for psychometric analysis and data management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with attention to detail and data quality.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with large-scale assessments, certification or licensure exams, or organizational surveys is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
